Thematic Lessons

We love thematic English lessons here at Get It Right. Each month we focus on a topic and relevant skills. Activities are planned to encourage student participation through discussion and presentation. Within the theme, practice questions are provided to help the students work on their weak areas, without falling into mindless drilling. Language learning isn't just about grammar structures or vocabulary banks. We work on authentic tasks that require students to make use of knowledge and skills from a variety of disciplines. Students then communicate their findings and thoughts in English. Teacher Libing often tells the students about the big picture - why are we doing all these things? They all contribute to a larger task and hence a larger purpose.

This month we look forward to working on a comparison of 2 fashion labels with the secondary school students. Students will be using the language of persuasion to make suggestions on how to improve the fashion labels they have chosen to study. Although it'll be hard work trying to edit draft after draft, this will put us in good stead for more complex argumentative and exposition writing.
