It is the beginning of some serious story telling for our P3 students. Our young learner tried a jigsaw activity and guessed the order of the pieces, as we read them part by part. Sign posts such as connectors and vocabulary that hint at a logical story flow help young story tellers to understand how to tell stories effectively.
Then we worked out the components in the Story Roller Coaster, linking them to what the learner had been exposed to in the school's official curriculum. This activity will be followed with a close analysis of real story books, as well as story planning guides. Bit by bit, piece by piece, we put together the ingredients needed to tell the stories our students wish to share with everyone. The process might seem slow at the beginning, but we must remember these are young story readers and writers!
