I came across an online post about little home libraries and decided to share what we have at home. Over the years we have collected books that both children and adults enjoy. Some of these books are truly well-thumbed. While we buy books for our children, many enthusiastic family members and friends have also blessed us with books that deserve to be read over and over again. At the same time, as the children grow older, we have sorted out books for younger age groups and passed them on to those looking for their first collection. Library trips take top priority in our schedules. Hardly a week goes by without any trip to the library, whether to the nearest neighbourhood library or to bigger regional libraries. The elder daughter who is in primary school borrows regularly from the school library too. We take part in events organised by the library board and our local bookstores. With our fellow parent friends, we also encourage one another by sharing suitable titles and good deals. It's so hard to keep everyone reading regularly, because there are many events and sometimes, distractions. But as parents who are also educators, we value reading immensely. Reading nourishes our minds and heals our hearts. Start somewhere today, pick up a book for yourself and your child!
