As an English language educator and someone who loves learning languages, this article is an extremely useful resource to explain to my students, parents and fellow educators what dyslexia actually means. Read it to understand that dyslexia isn't simply flipping b and d - rather, the difficulty in pronouncing b and d reflects a struggle to distinguish phonemes. While it is true many school systems are designed such that students who read well are at an early advantage, the long term learning needs of the children require more attention. I believe that it isn't inherently wrong for school systems to endeavour to build reading ability in our young learners. Reading, after all, is a crucial life skill. We are not going to be able to get around in life without some form of reading required of us. What we need to acknowledge would be that everyone learns differently, and even the same subjects or content areas can be learned in multiple ways. My favourite paragraph is the following. "Dyslexia is a different brain organization that needs different teaching methods. It is never the fault of the child, but rather the responsibility of us who teach to find methods that work for that child."
