Thanks to the renewed excitement of international travel, we have some precious friends back in Singapore for a holiday. They have been enjoying English lessons with Teacher Libing for a few weeks.
The children are 7 and 5 years old, and they are learning together. Teacher Libing has put together various storybook units for them to keep in touch with the English Language. The younger learner is focused on phonics and reading, while the older learner is working on grammar and sentence construction. They also do some activities together, such as reading instructions for craft making and playing language games. Click to contact us for more details if you'd like your kids and friends to learn together this holiday. Teacher Libing is based in Bukit Panjang. Travel to your home is also possible should the schedule fit. #getitrightsg #singapore #bukitpanjang #senja #teacher #NIE #MOE #reading #writing #tutor #private #tuition #English #Creativewriting #vocabulary #Storytelling #lessons #psle #secondaryschool #primaryschool #integratedprogramme #workshops #phonics #kindergarten #kids #esl #homebased #homeschooling #teenagers

Modern day learning provides students with many different tools. Yet the quality of learning does not always improve. Why is this so?
Perhaps there are too many tools out there and the students are lost? Maybe students think that they can check the Internet anytime anyway, so they end up not checking when they really should be? I have been encouraging my students to go back to the dictionary. Be it a physical or digital dictionary, students have to get into the habit of checking words they partially or entirely don't understand. Sometimes we do pre-reading / pre-writing activities like Meaning Matching to help build a vocabulary bank. Check it once and get a clear understanding. You can remember much better. #getitrightsg #singapore #bukitpanjang #senja #teacher #NIE #MOE #reading #writing #tutor #private #tuition #English #Creativewriting #vocabulary #Storytelling #lessons #psle #secondaryschool #primaryschool #integratedprogramme #workshops #phonics #kindergarten #kids #esl #homebased #homeschooling #teenagers Do you know someone who struggles at times with spelling and vocabulary?
Most intermediate and advanced learners of English still have problems with spelling and vocabulary from time to time. Some reasons include a lack of familiarity with the topic and fading memory of spelling patterns in English. To help the upper primary and high school learners, more complicated vocabulary is broken down into syllables and introduced as a mini puzzle activity. This serves as scaffolding, or the bridge, for the thematic reading and writing tasks coming up. The words are written on paper, cut up and jumbled. Learners can try to guess the words by mixing and matching the parts. (Environmentally friendly tip: use scrap paper!) #getitrightsg #online #BukitPanjang #Singapore #secondary #school #texts #teenager #highschool #creativekids #vocabulary #trained #tutor #storytelling #English #workshops #holiday #moe #nie #lessons #primary #PSLE #creative #writing #reading #kids #children #books #grammar #spelling Recently our P5 students have been working on Story Endings. We used a "choose your adventure" approach. First we read a simple story setting. Then we thought of 2 possible good encounters for the main character. From each possible story path, we constructed the respective ending.
Next we shifted our perspectives by thinking of 2 possible bad encounters, followed by the respective endings. This writing exercise allowed the students and teacher to create 4 different story plots. The students do not end up with the same model composition memorised. Instead they learn how to stimulate their thinking cells to diversify the story flow. For a longer writing practice, we read a story together and constructed the rest of it. The student wrote in prose and utilised one of four endings - happy, sad, unexpected, reflection. #getitrightsg #online #Bukitpanjang #Singapore #secondary #school #texts #teenager #highschool #creativekids #vocabulary #trained #tutor #storytelling #English #workshops #holiday #moe #nie #lessons #primary #PSLE #creative #writing #reading #kids #children #books Do your children or students write only short sentences when asked to describe? If the learner has difficulty writing more details, we can help the learner to practise description by using videos.
As moving visuals, videos are rich in action details. The learner can watch the video as many times as needed, and use the slow down function to catch the characters’ actions. Then a description can be made frame by frame. The learner also has enough time to review each section of the video while choosing appropriate words and phrases. Instead of relying on the learner’s imagination or recollection, this method works well for beginners and for revision. #getitrightsg #online #Bukitpanjang #Singapore #secondary #school #texts #teenager #highschool #creativekids #vocabulary #trained #tutor #storytelling #English #workshops #holiday #moe #nie #lessons #primary #PSLE #creative #writing #reading #kids #children #books |
